Woodform Concrete® 101

For tens of thousands of years, and across many different civilizations, wood has been a go-to material for construction. And as time goes on and technology advances, we continue to find newer, more efficient ways to make wood a staple in our buildings both structurally and stylistically.

With today's emphasis on sustainability, the next innovation in wood-based construction has arrived. Woodform Concrete® answers the age-old fascination with wood while embracing smarter, better construction methodology.

This special material takes our favorite things about wood and makes them even better with a high-tech, concrete design. It combines the lessons of the past with our plans for a future filled with greener design features.

What is It?

Like most great inventions you can think of, Woodform Concrete® started as an experiment. And just like Thomas Edison, the setting is the great state of New Jersey.

From their shop in Randolph—just under an hour down the road from Edison’s early laboratory in Menlo Park—JM Lifestyles designed Woodform Concrete to be, in their words, a “more sustainable” wood material with “more craftsmanship” than the real thing. Trueform recently brought JM Lifestyles into the Trueform family to supplement our designer concrete offering.

So what exactly does "more sustainable” mean? For starters, it's a lightweight aggregate concrete that includes 50% recycled materials. A more indirect effect is the complete elimination of wood waste —like end pieces and other byproducts—from the process altogether.

While the use of sustainable materials is impressive and cutting-edge, it's the commitment to craftsmanship that’s truly unbelievable.

Read on to discover how Woodform Concrete’s “Edison-esque” technology makes it the next great American invention.

What Does It Look Like?

Woodform Concrete® has been specially engineered to work like concrete without sacrificing that timeless wooden look. That means it’ll perform better against moisture, cold temperatures and weathering compared to a natural wooden surface.

Woodform Concrete looks, feels and sounds exactly like real wood. Thanks to its lightweight aggregate material, it’s also gone a step further.

Traditional wooden surfaces can be cold to the touch, but Woodform Concrete® feels warmer, making it perfect for interior and exterior uses. Live in a fire-prone area? Woodform Concrete won’t burn or dry out. There’s no splitting, rotting or degradation either, just timeless finishes that stand the test of time.
