How Do I Maintain My Concrete Tables?

Looking for a new table? It’s hard to beat concrete.

Concrete tables consistently outperform many other table materials. Plus, they’re on trend and great for every area of your home—even when it’s in disguise as wood

Want a stronger, more resilient concrete table? Proper care is key. Here's what you need to know about taking care of your concrete tables.

Our Simple Cleaning Steps

Want an easy way to clean your concrete tables? Here are 3 steps you can take in less than 30 minutes:

  • Soak a cloth in warm, soapy water and gently wipe the table. For the best results, make sure your soap has a neutral pH balance.
  • Use a gentle all-in-one cleaner to remove heavier, stuck-on stains.
  • Apply a furniture polish (like Pledge) every now and then to fill in scratches and enhance the shine

You can also use more natural cleaning products to get the job done right.

No matter what you use, make sure to check for any volatile chemicals hidden in the solution. Anything with ammonia, bleach, vinegar or citric acid is a no-go. Here’s what else you need to avoid.

Avoid These Mistakes for a Better Concrete Table

If there’s an Achilles heel to concrete surfaces, it’s anything abrasive, acidic, and high heat. That’s especially important to note for concrete coffee tables, dining room tables, and any other rooms where food is involved. Whether you’re serving a meal or having your morning coffee, always:

  • Clean up spills as quickly as possible
  • Avoid placing hot pots and pans directly onto the table
  • Don’t use knives or sharp, hard objects on the surface

A simple cutting board, hot pad, and place mats will go a long way in protecting the integrity of your concrete tabletop.

But even with the utmost attention to detail, your table may become damaged over time. Thankfully, there is a solution.

Don’t Let Damage Dampen Your Mood

It takes a lot to truly damage concrete, which means that most of the issues you spot are repairable. Follow our step-by-step  chip repair and sealer repair instructions if you’d like to take care of the damage yourself.

So how can you tell if your table’s damaged? Be on the lookout for:

  • Discoloration: Over time, you may notice dark spots, stripes, or uneven color distribution. Thankfully, you can fix discoloration with acid treatment, specialty coating, color staining, or a simple scrubbing with hot water.
  • Chips: One of the most common types of damage is chips in your concrete. They’re easy to repair yourself in most cases.
  • Cracks: Cracks in your concrete are only part of the problem. You may also have water damage if you notice cracks that cut deep into the concrete. Narrower cracks can be fixed with a special concrete crack filler; wider cracks typically require some demolition work before a vinyl patching solution is added.
  • Stains: Too many Neglected spills and or too harsh of a cleaner and your concrete may become stained. Just like chips, staining is a simple fix if you use concrete dye.
